CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL MY FRIENDS WHO WERE BORN IN THE
50′s, 60′s and early 70′s !
First, we survived being born to mothers who drank while they carried us and lived in houses made of asbestos.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese, raw egg products, loads of bacon and processed meat, tuna from a can, and didn’t get tested for diabetes or cervical cancer..
Then after that trauma, our baby cots were covered with bright coloured lead-based paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets or shoes, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.
As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.
We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle….
Take away food was limited to fish and chips, no pizza shops, McDonalds , KFC, Subway or Nandos.
Even though all the shops closed at 6.00pm and didn’t open on the weekends, somehow we didn’t starve to death!
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.
We could collect old drink bottles and cash them in at the corner store and buy Toffees, Gobstoppers, Bubble Gum and some bangers to blow up frogs with.
We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank soft drinks with sugar in it, but we weren’t overweight because……
WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of old prams and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. We built tree houses and dens and played in river beds with matchbox cars.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo Wii , X-boxes, no video games at all, no 999 channels on SKY ,
no video/dvd films,
no mobile phones, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms………..WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no
Lawsuits from these accidents.
Only girls had pierced ears!
We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.
You could only buy Easter Eggs and Hot Cross Buns at Easter time…
We were given air guns and catapults for our 10th birthdays,
We rode bikes or walked to a friend’s house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just yelled for them!
Mum didn’t have to go to work to help dad make ends meet!
RUGBY and CRICKET had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn’t had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!! Getting into the team was based on
MERIT
Our teachers used to hit us with canes and gym shoes and bully’s always ruled the playground at school.
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of.
They actually sided with the law!
Our parents didn’t invent stupid names for their kids like ‘Kiora’ and ‘Blade’ and ‘Ridge’ and ‘Vanilla’
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO
DEAL WITH IT ALL !
And YOU are one of them!
CONGRATULATIONS!
You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated our lives for our own good.
And while you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave their parents were.
PS -The big type is because your eyes are not too good at your age anymore
The good ol’ days Those were the days?
I am in a school where there are 2 10th grade classes. ( 10-1 and 10-2), When I was in 10-1, I transferred out because I was the most quiet person in the class and they started to spread rumors saying Im gay and this that and the other, all because I was quiet and not speaking to anyone. Anyways, I transferred out due to my grades to be in a more advance class which is 10-2. I’ve been with 10-2 for 1 year now, but i dont think i fit in with either class. The kids in 10-1 are friends with the kids in 10-2 except me. The kids in 10-1 are pretty cool with me. We run jokes and all. But we dont dress a like, and the kids in 10-1 knew each other for 3 years now. Sometimes im nervous to say stuff to them because i might feel stupid. They are skinny and im chubby, im mostly cool with the girls than they are, im quiet, i keep to myself. Yet, i might feel they think im gay because my voice is not as deep as theirs, i dont listen to music they listen to [ i like pop, techno, reggae and reggaeton ] they like rap. I dont sit with them at times in class [ im on the right they are on the left ] Sometimes when they act immature idOnt. They are loud, im not all the time. I wear uniform everyday, most of them dont, they are much more built, im not, they look better than me, and most of all in gym they play basketball and ii play volley ball with the girls and my gym teacher [ guy ]. But thats because i dont like basketball, so i refuse to play it.
What can i dO to fit in and to be much more cooler with these kids. I want to be really cool and for them so to see who I really am. What can be done? Please be advice, I talk to everyone of them. We are cool, Im mostly cool with 1 person out of all the boys. And im highly cool with 3 or 4 of the girls out of all the girls. I don’t like rap, and I dont think i ever will. – Lol,
What do I do, I don’t think I fit in.?
im 14 and i have been looking for a job in I.T for ages now. i am very good with computers and i build my own when i need a new PC. i am also good with programming, tweaking and overclocking. my I.T teacher thinks that my knowledge of computers is amazing for my age bu im not old enough for most jobs. also im very good with Business and money management although people wouldn’t trust me lol. i really want someone to answer me. i wont work for a ridiculously low pay but kind of low is ok
I.T employers look please?
I now its long, but its well worth ready and commenting on.
Lets look at the city’s problems:
1.) GANGS!!!! Raleigh Police Chief Harry Dolan said the city has a “significant” gang problem that requires a community response. Forced bussing has influenced many young Africa descent males into gangs. (Don’t bring up racism, recall the gang brawl on a Saturday night inside Triangle Town Center that involved as many as 300 young blacks. A 15-year-old was stabbed, and a police officer injured!) These 10 to 16 year olds would of never been involved in such behavior if it was not for others being bused miles from other parts of the city into their own and influenced these students. A child gets sent all over the county to go to school and feels unsafe because they’re away from their home turf and don’t know anyone, so they join a gang for protection.
2.) OVERCROWDING! Look at Wakefield. Every football field and soccer field is covered in classroom trailers. After school programs are needed to keep children away from crime, to build character, and sadly…bad parents. Yes bad parents, ones that are in gangs, doing/selling drugs, in jail, or to rich to care. Only the best of the students are on the basketball and football teams. What about the thousands of others that are looking to be apart of something? NOTHING! (Sadly Gangs allow these students to be apart of something that others look up to.)
3.) “GOOD SCHOOLS” what Wake County parents don’t know… When a school is under performing what happens? Bring in better teachers? Start after school programs? NOPE! They bus good achieving students to that school and bus the uneducated students to a better school. This does nothing to help the student but it sure does make the school look better on paper. Just BS!
5.) DRUGS: Wake County has almost ended drug searches in the schools because if the students don’t get caught with drugs on the school ground. The school “does not have a drug problem” on paper. WAKE UP PEOPLE! Bring the drug searches back into the schools! Once Wake County goes back to neighborhood schools. Hopefully the drugs will become more localized and the police can fix the problem schools one by one.
4.) “BROKEN WINDOW THEORY” Look this up online but…This theory suggests that a disorderly environment sends a message that no one is in charge, thus increasing fear, weakening community controls, and inviting criminal behavior. It further maintains that stopping minor offenses and restoring greater order can prevent serious crime.
In traditional policing, they go from call to call, and that is it. Raleigh police is under paid and over worked. This practice of cleaning up Raleigh needs to be down ASAP. Remove the graffiti the next day to prevent others from doing it and send out a strong message to these children that we don’t put up with it. It will better our communities as a whole.
5.) Homes and neighborhoods would become more valuable because they have neighborhood schools with local children. Local children have pride in their school, classmates, teachers, and community. How do you expect a student to have pride and join groups like student government to better the school and community when they live so far away? They don’t and join groups like gangs to feel that pride.
6.) Many black children simply don’t want to study and see being educated as “acting white“ or called “Gay“ by their black peers. These students generally come from single-parent families who impose no discipline. These students are allowed to disrupt and terrorize schools by politically correct school boards afraid of civil rights lawyers and racist groups like the NAACP. For that reason, most large cities like Wake County have seen “white flight.” White flight is where wealthier families move to suburbs to escape the public school systems of large cities….This is the start of the Broken Window Theory. (as stated before) Once the wealthy educated students and families move out, the schools will continuing to go down hill from there.
Stop wasting money and time on the failed politically correct school board and city. The truth must be accepted.
Of course, every school must be equal in talent levels of teaching staff and materials on hand. By following these suggestions, we can stop pretending that more money will solve the problem. Political correctness is a lie and many cities are starting to admit the obvious after wasting 40 years and billions of dollars.
7.)Take the millions of wasted money on forced bussing and place it into a newer, cleaner CAT city bus program that is strongly needed in Wake County, after school programs, The Raleigh Police to clean up the city’s gang problem, and Vocational Classes. Face the fact that every student will not go to college and having a skill trade and making money is better than having a drop out and living the life of crime.
Whats your thoughts?
Wake County Public School System, Black Children, and the NAACP?
Okay, I went with my friend to attend Sunday School/Sunday Services at the Ft. Lauderdale Baptist Church. I myself am an Atheist, and have been begging my friend to bring me, so I can actually see what goes on.
I’m actually quite interested in visiting and listening in on more services, (especially from other denominations, since this doesn’t seem to be the friendliest/most accepting).
Anywho… Sunday services went just as I expected them to. It was… (brainwashing is a harsh term), bible reading and interpretation. But the only person allowed to interpret it the way they wanted to, was the guy running it. Everyone else’s interpretation of what was going on, (when Peter leaves the Gentiles for the Jews(?)), was “wrong” in the eyes of this schmuck. He was making all these kids’ interpretation of the Bible, (which all sounded more logical and tolerant than the preacher’s), were 100% wrong and that they were talking out of their back-side. So I was very uncomfortable with what went on in there.
After that, we attended services. Now, keep in mind, that this church is ginormous, and could easily house victims of the Haiti earthquake much more comfortably than the Super Dome could a few years back. It was huge in here. I think it might be classified as a mega-church or super-church or whatever they call them. In taking an educated guess, I would estimate a 3,500-4,000 capacity.
They had a full band, (horn section, organ, piano, guitarist, bassist, 3 percussionists, plus a congo-player, and of course; the choir). Seeing all the old women happily and playfully singing in the choir was the only enjoyment I got out of being there.
After about 3-4 songs, the pastor came up with his wireless microphone and his [presumably] very expensive suit, and starts belittling EVERY SINGLE THING our, (America’s) Founding Fathers stood for. “This is a Christian nation!” “We need to get Christ back in school!” “This country was built upon Christian principles!!” He then goes on to give examples of presidents quoting the good book in their inaugural addresses. He then proceeds to use Dwight D. Eisenhower, (the same president that put “In God We Trust” on our money, and “…Under God…” in our Pledge of Allegiance), as a representative for this country’s religious views. He said that Thomas Jefferson wanted everyone to pray in the middle of congressional hearings, and that George Washington did similar things, especially in times of war.
I became so enraged with this man, I was sweating and I found myself making a fist with either hand. Though I knew he was 100% wrong about almost everything he said, I had to confirm it online and with my American History teacher yesterday. My teacher was laughing his d*ck off when I recited the Pastor’s words.
There was plenty more the Pastor spoke about, (American being symbolized in End-Times Prophecy in the Bible, symbolism of the Eagle, Spain’s Agnostic leader, among other things), but I’ll leave you with this.
Not don’t get me wrong, I know not all church’s are like this. I live in the south, (Florida), and this was a Baptist Church, but I had to share these religious atrocities and brain-washing schemes with you.P.K., I actually have a good friend in Utah I may visit sometime.
So, I went to church for the first time this past Sunday. Can I get your opinions?
warning: this might get kinda long
so me and this guy were best friends for 2 years and he even started to like me. he was an artist so he drew me pictures. we would say luv u lots at the end of the school day EVERY SINGLE DAY. he wouldnt leave the school building without telling me it, and he would look all over until he found me. we were really close , i told him all my secrets & everything i possible knew about myself. we would text until 4am (i would usually be the one to fall asleep on him and when i would, the next day he would say sweetdreams to me. when i wouldnt be feeling well and sitting by myself on the grass (im sick all the time..all year round :s ) he would come and stand beside me awkwardly and then ask to sit beside me, and he would leave when someone else came. he bought me stuff when he went on trips ( i never accepted them because i just idk. never would) he asked me to hug him and i refused. he asked to date me and i said us? date? and after that we just became really close bestfriends. we would joke around with each other, and he was really sweet. (wow so many stories i left out, was getting to long.) but you guys get the point. on the negative side.. he was really over powering, jelous, and sometimes would say the harshest things. not to mention i caught him lying numerous amount of times. and after i said no we should only be best friends he would like every girl he met, and he would tell me how great they were and later i would find out that they never have even talked. he would get really angry when i would talk about other guys, when i would stand next to another guy he would go in the middle of us. he would have temper issues, one time he couldnt the sit infront of me on the bus to a field trip and he just had a breakdown cuz the teacher told him to move.
recently
when we were in highschool the first day he would say hi to me every time i saw him, and i would kind of umm… not pay as much attention to him. not because im a stuck up or i think im too good for him, but because i didnt think of him that way. then i moved and things have been really different , we got in a huge fight before i left, and the one person i really cared about there, was too mad at me to say goodbye. but then he texted me saying how stupid he was a few weeks later, and things were good again, but now i like a guy and hes the only guy ive ever liked (junior in highschool) and we would ocassionaly write play full messages about eachother on our personal messages (on msn)
and he would ask about him and everyday he would be like are you guys still together, what does your mom think, you guys are going too fast. and everytime i would talk to him on msn his moods would change. sometimes it would be one word replies like mhmm. etc. and sometimes he would be nice, and sometimes really mean. so i would say hi to him , cuz i didnt want to make things worse when he was already mad. so recently he acted really mean and he told me i changed, and some people probably hate me at my school,i throw myself at guys (im actually really conservative) and all this other mean stuff. and he told me how i never say hi and he’s tired of saying hi first, and after all that mean and extremely hurtful stuff considering it came from a best friend who i loved (not in that way) he’s like do you want to start over. and i was tired of being a push over for him so i said how can i ? after all that stuff you told me . and we havent talked since. (2-3 weeks) but we still have eachother on msn we havent blocked eachother. but i dont want to be so negative and live my life knowing this happened between my best friend, so do you think i should talk to him first? and what should i say?
thank you soo much for reading all thisedit : i always write long : (
and hey there was a warning!edit: i’ve never acted to mean with him . EVER. even when he said that and cursed, i just ignored it and tried to talk.
guy problem…. : | help please?
ALSO PLEASE TELL ME A GOOD CLOSING PARAGRAPH FOR IT. THANKS.
Elementary school teachers and makeup artists are very different in their own ways. Makeup artists alter the appearance of anyone for occasions such as movies or events. They prepare actors for performances and models for photo shoots/runway shows. They do this by applying makeup and prosthetics and building and styling wigs. They also create special makeup effects. They have created some of our most memorable characters like villains, heroes, and aliens. The occupational outlook handbook states that makeup artists, “…apply makeup to enhance performing artists appearances…” While elementary school teachers teach children, grades kindergarden to eighth, in subjects such as history, music, math, reading, english, and science. They also prepare and mark tests, correct homework, and evaluate students for report cards. Elementary school teachers have a talent for working with children; organizational, administrative, research, and communication skills; the power to influence, motivate, and train others; they are also patient and creative. Workers in other occupations requiring some of these aptitudes include disciplinarians, educators, advisers, counselors, and librarians. Makeup artists have jobs similar to itself too. They are barbers, cosmetologists, personal appearance workers, beauticians, and estheticians. Like makeup artists they all help enhance or alter the appearance of a customer. A similarity between makeup artists and elementary school teachers is that makeup artist need to be social and friendly with the people they are working with and their customers. Elementary school teachers also need to be social and friendly with their students, fellow teachers, and staff.btw i am in 7th gradei just said short paragraph so people would click on the question lol
is this a good SHORT paragraph?
Hey Everyone. To Start Off can i please ask only answers that will help me please? Ik some ppl are gonna b like “don’t kiss at school” well that’s not answering my question so don’t say that.
alright so me and my bf were talking and we both decided taht we are ready for our kiss. and it’s going to be on the lips. the problem is the ONLY TIME we can kiss is at school. we both have a really busy life so basically we only see each other at school and talk on the phone all the time. So we have to kiss at school. tomorrow we are going to. We can’t do it before school because we both are never there on time. also because we have no ways of getting there with our schedules. Also at the end of school he takes the bus so we can’t do it after school too. he is basically gone b4 i even get out of class. sooo the only time we can kiss is at band recess and lunch.
I’m going to tell you the basic layout of our school (or where we are allowed) the bottom playground is a HUGE playground that has the 6th grade pods on the left side then a big cement area then a HUGE field where my bf plays soccer. it’s really huge and if we go all the way to the back MAYBE ppl won’t c us… maybe long shot. then there’s a big hill then a sorta H shaped building where we have the girls bathroom and the boys across from each other. so that’s my school.
Let’s talk about the times. Band: this is at 8 in the morning tomorrow. we all go to the farthest room on the bottom playground. idk how this would work because there’s a lot of ppl in band. when it ends we all just walk back to our class rooms (all going the same way). Recess: 10 o clock to 10:15. basically he plays soccer on the bottom playground with me. Lunch 12 o clock to 12:45. we walk up our big hill then we go to our outdoor lunch benches eat then go to the bottom playground. that’s it. so when is a good time to kiss? thank you all REAL TRUE answers are appreciated!
(the only two answers taht i have thot of myself is at band we both say we ahve to go to the bathroom and walk up there kiss and go back. (mite not work cuz we in separate classes his teacher is strict. the otehr solution i have is at lunch b4 they let all the kids go to the bottom playground we both go to the bathroom kiss and walk back hand in hand
.
the problem with this is sometimes they don’t let us go OR there are a whole bunch of kids hanging out there.)lol ik this sounds stupid. but rlly its the only way we can. and the only reason we have to plan it so we don’t get caught. cause we want to.oh Tracey good answer
How Do Me And My Bf Kiss AT School Without Getting Caught?
The movie was about when these animal,or creatures trying going to school and suddenly this one of the creatures fainted because of this poison from the humans. The other students want to find a cure before its too late. The teacher suddenly remembered the same thing that happened when he was little. The other students want to go find he animals before she dies. They go on a long journey and build a plane out of leaves. When they find the plant they try to reach up the mountain where it was on. When they try to get home, they got lost. The they come across the tree that has a chipped bark from where they went on a field trip, or some trip with the school and gave the antidote to the teacher and she all got better. If im explaining something wrong and you think you might know the movie, then please tell me and type down the movie you think it might relate to.
What movie is this? (More details on the bottom)?
I am a first grade teacher. I teach in a low income area and lately, have had a lot of kids with ‘sticky fingers.’ In the past month we have had three seperate incidents with children stealing, from eachother and the school. I want to do some ‘character building’ education with my kids, and would really welcome any ideas on good lesson plans/activities to get the point across, without just sounding preachy. Any suggestions are welcome
Thank you! I would also welcome other ‘character building’ type activities on other areas
